Frequently Asked Questions

Got a question? Find answers to the most commonly asked questions below.

Q: How do I obtain Cisco updates for my used Cisco routers and switches?
A: Purchase “Smartnet Eligible” equipment and place on a Cisco Smartnet contract. An 8 x 5 x NBD contract is the most cost effective contract to achieve this.

Q: Does my used Cisco router, switch etc. come with a software license?
A: Most line cards, adapters, modules, transceivers, SFPs etc do not have any software component and do not require licensing. Items such as used Cisco routers and used Cisco switches do have IOS software on board and Cisco advises that a license should be purchased for these items. The official  answer is on Cisco’s own website IOS Transfer and Relicensing Policy.

Q: What relationship does Envisage IT Broking have with Cisco?
A: Envisage IT Broking is not an authorised Cisco dealer or distributor.

Q: What does “Smartnet Eligible” mean?
A: Smartnet Eligible means an item may be placed onto a Cisco Smartnet contract whether new or used. Please advise if you require Smartnet Eligible used Cisco Routers, switches etc

Q: What does dealer refurbished mean?
A: Equipment is used and has been cleaned and tested. Could have light scratches on casing.

Q: What does NOB mean?
A: “New open box.” - Equipment is still in original packaging with all original parts/accessories but may have been opened.

Q: What does “New Pull” mean?
A: Equipment has never been put into an operational environment. Part has been removed from a production unit prior to installation as it was not required. Does not have usual packaging associated with a NIB item.
